Heat Advisory issued July 1 at 1:07PM CDT until July 2 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Birmingham AL * WHAT...Heat index values up to 108. * WHERE...Bibb, Blount, Cherokee, Chilton, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Perry, Pickens, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston Counties. * WHEN...Until 9 PM CDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stoke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Special Weather Statement issued July 1 at 1:28PM CDT by NWS Birmingham AL At 128 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms near Concord, or 9 miles northwest of Hueytown, moving west at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Southwestern Birmingham, Hoover, Bessemer, Hueytown, Gardendale, Fairfield, Fultondale, Pleasant Grove, Midfield, Adamsville, Brighton, Kimberly, Lipscomb, Graysville, Morris, Sylvan Springs, Brookside, Mulga, Maytown, and West Jefferson. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 800 PM CDT for central and west central Alabama.
