Red Flag Warning issued June 21 at 2:13PM AKDT until June 22 at 10:00PM AKDT by NWS Fairbanks AK The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a Red Flag Warning for lightning, which is in effect from 10 AM to 10 PM AKDT Monday. * AFFECTED AREA...Fortymile Country, Upper Tanana Valley, Delta Junction, Upper Chena River Valley, Tanana Flats, Eielson AFB and Salcha, Goldstream Valley and Nenana Hills, Chatanika River Valley, Two Rivers, Fairbanks Metro Area, Nenana, Northern Denali Borough and Eastern Delta Junction. * TIMING...Through 10 PM AKDT Sunday evening and between 10 AM and 10 PM AKDT Monday. * THUNDERSTORM COVERAGE INDEX...Scattered. * WINDS...West around 5 mph. Near thunderstorms, gusts could reach as high as 30 mph. * IMPACTS...Critical fire weather conditions are expected due to scattered wet thunderstorms across the interior. These storms will bring frequent lightning strikes and gusty winds that are expected to cause new fire ignitions. We plan to update this product by 10 PM AKDT or when lightning diminishes this evening. A Red Flag Warning means that conditions are occurring or will occur which could lead to the development of large and dangerous fires. It is directed toward fire agencies, and through them, to the public. Please advise the appropriate officials or fire crews in the field of this Red Flag Warning.
