Flood Watch issued June 17 at 12:53PM CDT until June 17 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Chicago IL * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of Illinois, including the following areas, Central Cook, DuPage, Eastern Will, Ford, Grundy, Iroquois, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, La Salle, Lake IL, Livingston, Northern Cook, Northern Will, Southern Cook and Southern Will and northwest Indiana, including the following areas, Benton, Jasper, Lake IN, Newton and Porter. * WHEN...Until 9 PM CDT /10 PM EDT/ this evening. * IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Additional waves of heavy rainfall are possible through the evening with rainfall rates in excess of one to two inches per hour possible. Soil moisture and streamflow are already elevated, so any heavy rainfall could result in flooding of rivers, streams, urban areas, and other flood prone areas. The highest threat for flash flooding is expected near and south of Interstate 80. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood A Flood Watch for flash flooding means rapid-onset flooding is possible, but not yet certain, based upon the latest forecasts. Flash flooding is a dangerous situation. Underpasses may be flooded. Roads and streets may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 307 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain with rates in excess of 1 inch per hour. Around 1 inch of rain has fallen in portions of the advisory area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... South Side of Joliet, Hammond, Gary, Tinley Park, Calumet City, Portage, Merrillville, Chicago Heights, East Chicago, Schererville, Hobart, Lansing, Oak Forest, Crown Point, Harvey, and New Lenox. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood A Flood Advisory means minor flooding along waterways and other poor drainage areas is imminent or may already be occurring.
