Extreme Heat Watch issued June 29 at 3:20AM EDT until July 2 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Detroit/Pontiac MI * WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values exceeding 105 degrees. * WHERE...A portion of southeast Michigan. * WHEN...From Tuesday afternoon through Thursday evening. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Extended period of hot and humid conditions expected Tuesday through at least Thursday. High temperatures reaching the mid 90s to near 100 degrees. This will lead to heat index values of 105 degrees or greater each day. Little relief overnight with low temperatures each night in the low to mid 70s. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates. Check with local emergency management officials for information on cooling center availability.

Air Quality Alert issued June 29 at 9:18AM EDT by NWS Detroit/Pontiac MI The alert is in effect for the following Michigan counties... St. Clair...Livingston...Oakland...Macomb...Washtenaw...Wayne and Monroe. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy has declared an Air Quality Alert for Monday June 29th for elevated levels of Ozone. It is recommended that, when possible, you avoid strenuous outdoor activities, especially those with heart disease and respiratory conditions such as asthma. Watch for symptoms that include wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, dizziness, or burning in nose, throat, or eyes. People and businesses are urged to avoid activities which can lead to ozone formation. These activities include: refueling vehicles or topping off when refueling, using gasoline powered lawn equipment, using charcoal lighter fluid. Positive activities include: driving less, telecommuting, walking or bike riding, delaying or combining errands, using water-based paints.
