Numerous roads remain closed across northern and western St. Louis County due to flooding. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 530 PM CDT Thursday, gauge reports indicated flooding is ongoing, especially within the city of Cook and around the greater area, due to heavy rainfall that occurred Tuesday evening. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Lake Vermilion, Mountain Iron, Cook, Tower, Nett Lake, Orr, Meadow Brook, Ash Lake, Kabetogama, Crane Lake, Gheen, Buyck, Cusson, Pelican Lake, Soudan Underground Mine State Park, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Near Trout Lake, Voyageurs National Park, Kabetogama Lake, McCarthy Beach State Park and Rainy Lake East. - Flood safety information can be found at www.weather.gov/safety/flood . Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Campers and hikers should avoid flooded trail crossings. If camping at a site along or near the banks of rivers or streams, move away from those locations and seek higher ground. Trails in hilly terrain can quickly become unstable during or shortly after heavy rainfall.
