Flood Watch issued June 20 at 3:00PM CDT until June 21 at 7:00AM CDT by NWS Hastings NE * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of north central Kansas, including the following counties, Jewell, Mitchell, Osborne, Phillips, Rooks and Smith and Nebraska, including the following counties, Adams, Buffalo, Clay, Dawson, Fillmore, Franklin, Furnas, Gosper, Greeley, Hall, Hamilton, Harlan, Howard, Kearney, Merrick, Nance, Nuckolls, Phelps, Polk, Sherman, Thayer, Valley, Webster and York. * WHEN...Through Sunday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Through roughly sunrise Sunday morning, the entire Watch area will be prone to seeing one or more rounds of thunderstorms producing heavy rain, primarily occurring Saturday evening into early Sunday morning. For the majority of the Watch area, 24-hour rainfall totals by sunrise Sunday will likely reach 1 to 3 inches, but small portions of the area could end up with at least 3 to 6 inches of total rainfall, including rain that already fell during the day Saturday. Due to the combination of upcoming and previously-fallen rain, various pockets of the Watch area could experience flooding or flash flooding issues into early Sunday morning. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Northern Thayer County in south central Nebraska... * WHEN...Until noon CDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 944 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms, including earlier in the day on Saturday and then again through the evening hours. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Area mesonet observations and radar estimates show that between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional scattered thunderstorms may move through the warned area through the overnight hours tonight, so additional rainfall up to around one inch is not out of the question. - This new Flood Warning is replacing the Flood Advisories that were in effect across portions of south central Nebraska. - Some locations that may experience flooding include... Grand Island, Hastings, St. Paul, Geneva, Sutton, Ravenna, Wood River, Shelton, Loup City, Harvard, Doniphan, Cairo, Clay Center, Juniata, Alda, Exeter, Fairmont, Edgar, Fairfield and Giltner. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
