Extreme Heat Warning issued June 30 at 11:58AM EDT until July 3 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Binghamton NY * WHAT...For the Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 98 expected. For the Extreme Heat Warning, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 105 expected. * WHERE...Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, Schuyler, Seneca, Southern Cayuga, Southern Oneida, Steuben, Tioga, Tompkins, and Yates Counties. * WHEN...For the Heat Advisory, until 8 PM EDT this evening. For the Extreme Heat Warning, from 11 AM Wednesday to 8 PM EDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The hottest temperatures will be in urban valley locations during the mid to late afternoon timeframes when the heat index could climb as high as 105 to 110 degrees. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay informed. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued June 30 at 7:46PM EDT until June 30 at 8:30PM EDT by NWS Binghamton NY At 745 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Greater Binghamton Airport, moving southeast at 10 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... Binghamton, Vestal, Johnson City, Endicott, Kirkwood, Maine, Port Dickinson, Greater Binghamton Airport, West Corners, and Union Center. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
