For the second Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 107 expected. * WHERE...Coastal Onslow, Duplin, East Carteret, Inland Onslow, Jones, Northern Craven, Pamlico, Southern Craven, and West Carteret Counties. * WHEN...For the first Heat Advisory, until 8 PM EDT this evening. For the second Heat Advisory, from 11 AM to 8 PM EDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Special Weather Statement issued July 8 at 4:02PM EDT by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC At 402 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 7 miles north of Ocracoke Ferry Terminal to 9 miles north of Cedar Island Ferry Terminal. Movement was southeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Cedar Island, Atlantic, Portsmouth Village, Ocracoke Light House, and Cedar Island Ferry Terminal. If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
