Extreme Heat Warning issued July 10 at 12:59AM EDT until July 10 at 8:00PM EDT by NWS Wilmington NC * WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 111 expected. * WHERE...In North Carolina, Coastal Brunswick, Coastal New Hanover, Coastal Pender, Inland Brunswick, Inland New Hanover, and Inland Pender Counties. In South Carolina, Central Horry, Coastal Georgetown, Coastal Horry, and Inland Georgetown Counties. * WHEN...From 11 AM this morning to 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Allow outside pets and livestock plenty of fresh drinking water and a well ventilated and shaded location.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued July 10 at 6:34PM EDT until July 10 at 7:15PM EDT by NWS Wilmington NC At 633 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Rowan to Emerson, moving east at 45 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect wind damage to trees and power lines. Locations impacted include... Whiteville, Rowan, Lake Waccamaw, Sandyfield, Penderlea, Point Caswell, Hallsboro, Long Creek, Council, Currie, Wards Corner, The Borough, Riegelwood, Carvers, Lisbon, Lagoon, Malpass Corner, Montague, Elkton, and Rooks. A second area of strong winds associated with a new area of storms may enter the warned area before 7:00 pm. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Please send your reports of hail or wind damage, including trees or large limbs downed, by calling the National Weather Service office in Wilmington at 1 800 697 3901.
