The City of Norfolk in southeastern Virginia... The City of Portsmouth in southeastern Virginia... The Northeastern City of Suffolk in southeastern Virginia... The Northwestern City of Virginia Beach in southeastern Virginia... * Until 215 AM EDT. * At 1115 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 30 minutes. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Virginia Beach, Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk State University, Downtown Norfolk, Downtown Portsmouth, Old Dominion University, Virginia Wesleyan University, Regent University, Ocean View, Kempsville, Churchland, Great Bridge, Deep Creek, Hampton University, Langley AFB, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Suffolk. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
